Somewhere in a feng shui-ed condo a young ad exec settles into his leather arm chair to bask in his Harvard induced brilliance. You see, he has just received a huge bonus due to his groundbreaking ad campaign that will catapult his company into the “big leagues”. For a mere half a billion dollars, his commercial will appear for a few seconds during the Super Bowl this Sunday.

As he sips his scotch, he turns on his plasma tv only to find that with a few hundred dollars and the cooperation of Boston’s Finest, another ad campaign will have exponentially more impact than all the talking frogs and whining cavemen ever could.

Two things this week reinforced something that I already believed, namely that children who are part of the middle class or above in the United States are coddled beyond belief. The first was a radio discussion about how kids today essentially don full body armor to ride their bike. The second was the asinine law proposed in California (by a legislator with no children I might add) that parents who spank children under 4 are committing a crime. Both of these are surprising to me, and I am not even an old coot (yet).

Well, happy freakin’ 2007. Another year has gone by, and I have seemingly managed to become even less productive than in the past. I set a minimalist goal for what I want to get accomplished, and it looks like the 07 will require the bar to be lowered even further.

And, here, on a completely unrelated note, is today’s topic - the “War of the Roses” that is held on a local radio station. It is a weekly or bi-weekly (who the hell knows) feature that they have. Presented below for your consumption is what happens in a somewhat accurate chronology, and without a narrative bias (hi MSNBC!).
