A backwards philosophy and why it makes no sense
Dec 7th, 2007 by Michael
Just a quick rant for today, as I am trying to get ready for my trip to Kansas City for two weeks. Between that and Christmas I won’t physically be in my office again this year! Give a big holiday cheer for working remotely!
Anyway, I want to touch on an aspect of the Omaha mall shooting for a second. First off, I went into Von Maur the other day while Christmas shopping. I wouldn’t say that I wanted to shoot some of the unbelievably arrogant people that were shopping there, but I understand why he might have picked that store. Anyway, the media needs to be stopped. It was confirmed that in his note, and what he told his carekeeper, is that he was going to be famous. So the media grants him his wish by non-stop broadcasting his picture, his name, his story, etc. There is NO purpose served in doing so. The bastard is dead. He was not famous before and he should not be now. It is no longer a relevant piece of the story. The media needs to band together, akin to what happened in sports broadcasting. Granted it has started to revert back, but there was a long stretch where the networks refused to show any fan who jumped out on the field of play. They did not want to glamorize it by showing it on TV. Instead they would cut to the broadcast booth where the commentators quickly had to stop holding hands and playing hide the telestrator remote. And you know what - it worked. Rarely were there interruptions for soused fans invading the playing field. This needs to happen for these troubled souls who feel the need to cowardly take the lives of others. I would watch a channel for the rest of my life, out of principle, if they came out during a news story and said “He wanted to be famous by shooting those innocents, but we aren’t going to tell you his name.”
Irritatedly yours, -Michael
