Kansas City - is it truly suburbia?
Dec 10th, 2007 by Michael
I am out here in Kansas City for the week due to a wee little quality issue on some of our parts. I get to spend my days outdoors, which is fun due to the temperatures and impending ice storm.
It is fun though because I get to take up one of my favourite hobbies, eating on someone else’s dime. Man, I even have to cram an extra meal in there! I am not used to eating three times per day. But, given my ever expanding girth I did take to the hotel workout centre for some time today.
Here are some random thoughts on the trip so far:
I am in the KC suburbs. Yet, my hotel is within 10 miles of 4 casinos. Holy crap. I mean - cool! I may not be saying that tomorrow after I get cleaned out, but for once I won’t have to pay for the accompanying meal.
Speaking of said suburbs, my hotel is across the street from a theme park. In fact, they share an exit. Given that this has to be a popular destination, how can there only be 4 eateries with those being Waffle House, Wendy’s, KFC, and Joe’s BBQ Shack? It doesn’t make any sense. Of course - most restaurants are a decent distance but all typical chain fare. I think we will try to find some regional goodies tomorrow.
Lastly, I have never been in a Wal-Mart that was so crowded at lunch time. Nearly every cashier line was open and yet there were 5 or more people in every line. Don’t these people have jobs? Criminy, this is worse than the Vestal Wal-Mart which seemed to have people living there.
Enough for now - I need to go hose off so I can be clean enough to be admitted into the buffet.
Quizzically yours, -Michael
