Media Randomicity

Randomicity is not a word, but there are plenty on here that I did not know were either: http://wordwarriors.wayne.edu/
It is an absolutely fabulous website. Their mission is to bring words back that have fallen on hard times. Our society has become so dumbed down by internet parlance that this is a truly noble cause. I got mocked as a kid for using what were perceived to be big words; I do not want the converse to occur now and be mocked by other countries for our limited vocabularies. Since any reader can contribute, I added two words to the list (despite the despair that my fav word, persnickety, was already on there). Sadly, they used neither my definition nor my example sentence for either entry. But they kept that I contributed it. Oh well, at least I did something to help my fellow Americans.
As an aside, my personal favourite mocking story goes as follows. I went with a casual friend to meet some of his friends that I did not know. It was at a girl’s house, and I was most awkward in social scenarios. They were talking about typical high school stuff, most of which I did not get as I went to a different high school. We were switching between two rooms, one of which had a tv. I resigned myself to the latter, and noticed a book about golf that I had been wanting to read. I flipped it open when the crew came in and asked what I was doing. I do not recall what my retort was, but I made the mistake of using a polysyllabic word that was new to them. Wow did I take a lot of gruff for that.
I have touched on the written media, time for me to touch on visual and aural. There was a week of specials on cable devoted to Armageddon. It was called Armageddon week, and each night touched on various ways (or reasons why) the world might end. Is this really what our society needs right now, given our skittishness due to the economy? Yeah, I don’t really want to deal with people paranoid about meteors, tsunamis, Mayans, or exploding stars. Get in line people.
Lastly, my neighbour likes to play music. He does not play it excessively loud, nor does he play music that I despise. But, he plays it at strange hours. And since our bedrooms share a common wall due to the condo layout, it does keep me up sometimes. Well today he played it at a normal hour. After 3 songs I started to discern what album it was. After 5 I looked it up online to confirm that I indeed had the correct album. After 6 I spent some time thinking about the fact that I had that exact CD sitting in the garage. After 7 I really considered putting that CD in my computer, placing the speakers against the wall, cranking the sound way up, and then starting the next song at the exact same time as his. I decided that the garage was too cold to go get it. I still chortled though.
Verbally yours,
